BIM TO INDOOR GIS

For the past 20 years, CDV Systems has been presenting, implementing and training Revit to the AEC market world-wide. Now that Revit is the AEC Industry standard, CDV Systems offers services to expose Revit Data to the Property Owner for their Indoor FM & GIS needs.

Native Revit does not export to GIS…

CDV’S solution does.

This workflow consolidates all room & FF+E / MEP asset data (type & instance) from a multi-trade, multi-Revit model building project into a single SQL Server database. This same “open-source” SQL database then populates the entire building, room, asset lists & data to FM programs (WebTMA), three GIS programs (Blue Marble Global Mapper, QGIS, and ESRI ArcScene & ESRI ArcMap) and links each unique room to a full-building 3D Photo-Scan. There is no longer a need to “hand enter” any list of assets per room into FM or GIS.

More thoughts…

Today’s BIM challenge: Revit was never designed as a facilities management tool. For those property owners that do use Revit post construction, Revit knowledge is required to maintain the various Revit models per building.

Property Owners need the “data” within those Revit models to locate all the room data and family assets per room. This flags another inherent dilemma with Revit. Even though Revit can list all family assets across linked models such as structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, storm drainage, furniture or healthcare/lab equipment models, Revit DOES NOT list the Revit rooms in which those Revit family assets have been placed. The industry solution suggests a COBIE excel file which requires the Revit user to manually enter the room number for each family asset within all the linked Revit models. This is extremely time consuming with no guarantee of accuracy. Then, in the future when the room number in the architectural model is changed, the owner needs to repeat this manual parameter update across the same 8+ Revit linked models.

What the Property Owner needs from a nine-model federated Revit project, is a list of rooms and a list of family assets per room along with all the Revit parameter data. CDV Systems has developed that solution by consolidating all Revit room & FF+E / MEP asset data (type & instance) from a multi-trade, multi-Revit model building project into a single SQL Server database. This same “open-source” SQL Server database then populates the entire building, room, asset lists & data to FM programs: WebTMA & Maximo and three leading GIS programs: Blue Marble Global Mapper, QGIS, and ESRI ArcScene / ESRI ArcMap. There is no longer a need to manually enter any COBIE data in the Revit linked models. Instead, this workflow automatically updates all the room and asset data when changes occur in the Revit models. This workflow also does not require the Property Owner’s staff to be experts in Revit nor SQL Server.
